Completion of the One-year Pilot Programme

The one-year pilot Community Recycling Promotion Vehicle (CRPV) Progamme has come to a close by the end of October 2012. During the one-year period, the CRPVs staged promotion at more than 200 locations, including private housing estates, public rental housing estates and public locations, helping people to gradually develop a habit on separation and recycling of waste at source.

With the valuable experience gathered in this pilot programme, we are planning more initiatives to drum up the momentum of the general public on waste recycling. We look forward to your continuous support to and participation in these upcoming initiatives. More importantly, you can make good use of the waste separation facilities in your housing estates and in the community to continue the waste separation practice after the completion of the CRPV programme.

A Brief Account of the Pilot Programme

The Pilot Programme started on 1 November 2011. There were 3 CRPVs which were decorated vehicles that travelled to different districts in Hong Kong. They set up a booth from which people could obtain information on waste reduction and recycling, and play games. Waste plastics, glass bottles and small electrical and electronic equipment could be brought to the booth and exchanged for a small souvenir. The recyclables were taken to designated collection points for subsequent recycling.

Participation from housing estates

Apart from pubic locations, the CRPVs have visited about 200 housing estates in the one-year period. A list of the housing estates is shown here. The response from some of the participating housing estates was particularly good with many residents bringing recyclables to the CRPVs. The list of estates with highest average quantity of recyclables delivered to CRPV per visit in the last three months and those with greatest cumulative quantity delivered since CRPV operation can be found here.
