Briefing on Waste Paper Collection & Recycling Services and Import Control Measures

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) plans to introduce waste paper collection and recycling services (the “Scheme”) to support the local waste paper recycling industry, while improving operational standard and efficiency of the waste paper collection and recycling. Under the Scheme, the EPD will employ contractors through service contracts to collect waste paper from the whole territory, for further processing and exporting to the Mainland China or overseas markets for recycling to paper products; and providing financial incentives to encourage members of the public to proactively participate in clean recycling with a view to improving the overall quality of the local waste paper. In addition, the EPD will implement control measures on all waste paper importing to Hong Kong to prevent waste paper from overseas being stranded or disposed of in Hong Kong.

The EPD will hold a briefing to provide details and implementation arrangement of the Scheme and the import control measures. Stakeholders of the waste paper recycling industry and organisations who are interested in bidding the service contracts are welcome to attend.
