Forum on Source Separation of C&I Waste cum Certificates Presentation Ceremony 2008

The Forum on Source Separation of Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Waste, together with a Certificate Presentation Ceremony, was held by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) on 20 Feb 2008, receiving an encouraging response from over 200 participants.

The Source Separation Programme for C&I waste was launched in Oct 2007, aiming to recruit C&I buildings with "source separation" mechanisms in place that enable the tenants or occupants to take part in waste recovery and recycling in their workplace. As at Jan 2008, some 350 C&I buildings, including commercial and government office buildings, shopping arcades, industrial buildings, warehouses and car-parks, had signed up to the programme. The initial results were encouraging.

2. First Batch of Buildings / Premises Receiving Certificates

Some 220 C&I buildings were awarded certificates to commend their contribution to waste recovery and recycling. Representatives from these buildings with the officiating guests: Dr. Ellen Chan, Assistant Director of Environmental Protection, Dr. Lawrence Wong, Principal Environmental Protection Officer, Dr. Edmond Cheng, Vice President of the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies Ltd., Mr. Kendrew Leung and General Manager of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mr. Frank Leung.
