Introduction

To continuously encourage members of the public to integrate waste reduction and recycling into their daily life, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) launched an annual flagship waste reduction and recycling event, "Recycling Day". A series of educational and promotional activities have been rolled out from June 2026 to encourage public participation in waste reduction at source and waste separation for recycling, foster a green living culture in the community, and strive toward the of "Zero Landfill" together.

"Recycling Day" Creative Short Film Competition

To encourage the public to showcase their creativity and promote the concepts of waste reduction and recycling in engaging ways, the EPD organises the “Recycling Day” Creative Short Film Competition. We cordially invite members of the public to capture and share the message of waste separation at source and recycling through their lenses, reaching more people.

The Environment Day cum Recycling Day Launching Ceremony and Carnival (Successfully concluded)

To celebrate The Environment Day (June 5th) and the 40th anniversary of the Environmental Protection Department, the EPD launched a one-week publicity campaign, the "Beautiful Hong Kong Green Fest", in Hong Kong from 1 to 7 June, 2026. The Environment Day cum Recycling Day Launching Ceremony and Carnival was held on 7 June 2026 to introduce the “Beautiful Hong Kong Green Fest” campaign and kick off the series of educational and promotional activities under “Recycling Day”, marking the start of the annual flagship waste reduction and recycling event and encouraging public participation in waste reduction at source and waste separation for recycling. The Environment Day cum Recycling Day Carnival offers game booths that feature a wide range of environmental themes, from ecological conservation to waste reduction and recycling, as well as stage performances. The EPD’s mascot, “Big Waster”, will also be present to promote the event. Members of the public who successfully complete the tasks will have a chance to receive “Big Waster” themed souvenirs.

 

The Environment Day 2X GREEN$ Rewards (Successfully concluded)

The Environment Day 2X GREEN$ Rewards

The EPD is launching the “2X GREEN$ Rewards” from 5 to 7 June 2026. Members of the GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme can earn double GREEN$ for recycling designated types of recyclables (including waste paper, metals, plastics, glass containers, regulated electrical equipment, small electrical appliances, compact fluorescent lamps/fluorescent tubes, rechargeable batteries and beverage cartons) at any Recycling Stations, Recycling Stores, Recycling Spots, or Smart Recycling Bins of the GREEN@COMMUNITY from 5 to 7 June 2026. (This promotion does not apply to food waste recycling.) This promotion ended on 7 June 2026.

The EPD reserves the right to change, amend or terminated the above offers without prior notice. All matters and disputes will be subject to the final decision of the EPD.

 

"Recycling Day" Community Engagement Activities (Successfully concluded)

In June 2026, the EPD, together with 12 Recycling Stations across the territory, and more than 200 "Recycling Day" partners, organised "Recycling Day" educational activities at various community locations (including schools, housing estates and shopping centres, etc). Through a range of activities such as booth games and workshops, these activities aim to actively promote waste separation at source and clean recycling within the community.
