Self-pickup Store On-site Recycling Project

As online shopping has become an integral part of daily life, logistics packaging plays a vital role in protecting products during transportation.

To address the substantial increase in parcels, cartons, and filling materials accompanying the rapid development of online shopping, the Environmental Protection Department will, starting from 2026, collaborate with major logistics companies to progressively implement the “Self-pickup Store On-site Recycling Project”.

The programme aims to assist the logistics industry’s extensive “self-pickup point network” in upgrading to a “Green Pickup Network”, encouraging customers to return packaging materials for recycling on-site immediately after collecting their parcels. These returned packaging materials undergo inspection, with suitable materials reused, or delivered to partner recyclers for recycling processing.

Through this initiative, the Government is collaborating with enterprises to gradually put into practice the circular economy principles of “reuse and recycle”, striking a balance between commercial operations and environmental protection. The programme delivers more convenient recycling options for citizens and businesses alike, embedding recycling into daily routines and making it much more practical to put into practice.
