Becoming Campus Recycling Expert
Schools can make use of the “teaching resources”, “school-based activities” and “outreaching activities” etc., to enhance students’ knowledge on waste reduction and recycling, as well as community recycling support.
Objective
Educate students knowledge on waste reduction and recycling and allow them to familiarise with the recycling facilities at schools and in the community.
Expected Outcomes
- Understand the importance of source separation of waste and recycling, as well as their impact on the environment
- Master methods of waste reduction at source and proper recycling in daily live
- Understand the locations of the recycling facilities at schools or in the community and learn how to use them
- Cultivate waste reduction habit in schools

The teaching resource pack provides support teachers in promoting the concepts of waste reduction and recycling in schools and GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling facilities through various lesson plans, worksheets, teaching activities, and extended activities. It also encourages students to invite their family members to practise source separation and recycling in their daily lives. Content includes:

Teacher Workshop |
The EPD appointed The Education University of Hong Kong to organise teacher workshops to introduce the usage of the teaching resource pack and provide an overview of waste reduction, waste management measures and community recycling support in Hong Kong. It allows teachers to understand and educate their students on the concepts of waste reduction and recycling, as well as community recycling facilities. In addition, teachers will be able to gain hands-on experience on one of the extended activities in the teaching resource pack (i.e. upcycle the residues of water treatment works into eco-magnetic chess or coaster). School Promotion Booths |
Provide students with the latest information on waste reduction and recycling, as well as community recycling facilities through promotion booths. 。 Service period: September 2025 to July 2026, all weekdays (excluding public holidays), 9am to 5pm

Educate students with environmental knowledge like waste reduction and recycling, community recycling facilities, etc. in a comprehensible way. It is suitable to be carried out in assemblies and other special teaching activities.

Education Panel |
Schools can apply for educational panels for short-term display in the campus. Schools can flexibly decide display period and purposes according to their own needs, with a view to enhancing students’ understanding of source separation of waste.

Environmental Education Drama |
Through collaboration with the non-profit organisation "The Theatre Wonderland", environmental education drama will be provided to member schools (limited to primary schools only) to educate students about waste reduction at source and encourage them and their family members to develop waste reduction habits in their daily lives. The musical drama is divided into two separate shows for students of different levels to join. The details are as follows:

| (3) Outreaching Activities | |
Visits to the EPD’s Waste Recycling and Treatment Facilities |
Students can learn about environmental knowledge like waste reduction at source and resources circulation etc. interactively through participating in the guided tours of the GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling facilities, waste-to-energy and waste-to-resources facilities. Schools can contact the nearby Recycling Stations to arrange visits or participate in their source separation and recycling education activities. Quotas will be allotted on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Operators do not guarantee to arrange relevant activities to schools. | Visits to Corporate Environmental Projects |
Visit to Corporate’s Green Management Practices In collaboration with Nan Fung Group, guided tours of the AIRSIDE office building will be provided to schools, allowing students to learn about corporate’s strategies for waste reduction and recycling, as well as sustainable development, including smart waste management, green building, and carbon emission management. Schools can contact the contractors of “GreenLink – Environmental Education Support Programme” directly to arrange environmental education activities (such as school talks, field trips, workshops, etc.)

| (4) School Recycling Support | |
| Apply for Three-colour Waste Separation Bins |
Schools can apply for the 3-colour waste separation bins through the “Waste Separation and Recycling Scheme in Schools” for separation of waste paper, metals and plastics. Interested schools please fill in the application form, and email or fax to the Secretariat of the Environmental Campaign Committee (Email:schools@eeb.gov.hk / Fax:2909 9516) |
- Service quotas are limited. Subject to service demand, the EPD does not guarantee the provision of required services. We recommend schools to contact us at least 2 months before the proposed activity period/loan date to allow timely arrangements
- To allow more schools to participate in relevant activities, if schools have successfully applied for 3 or more of the above services within this school year, the priority of subsequent applications may be lowered
- The EPD reserves the final right of approval for applicants
