Introduction

To strengthen the recycling atmosphere on campus and allow students to experience the operation of GREEN@COMMUNITY, the EPD launches this new activity in the 2026/27 school year. Schools are encouraged to set up and operate Campus Recycling Spots regularly. Students will be appointed as “Green Duty Ambassadors”, and will gain hands-on experience in operating GREEN@COMMUNITY Recycling Spot under the guidance of teachers, while guiding and encouraging fellow students or their family members to actively participate in resource separation and recycling. Schools’ participation in this activity and their accumulated performance will be considered in the assessment of the “SGREEN x We-recycle@School Inter-school Recycling Competition”. The service hours accumulated by “Green Duty Ambassadors” will also be recorded on the electronic participation certificates in recognition and commendation of their efforts.

Objectives

Allow students to experience the operation of GREEN@COMMUNITY by running their own Campus Recycling Spots
Train “Green Duty Ambassadors” to guide peers in proper and clean recycling methods
Establish a lasting campus recycling culture
Allow students to accumulate service hours through practical participation, enhancing their personal development

Note: When assessing the “Best Participating School Award” of the SGREEN x We-recycle@School Inter-school Recycling Competition, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will only count the activity data from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027)

Details	Suggested Service Hours*
Step 1: Train “Green Duty Ambassadors” Each school to recruit students to form a team of “Green Duty Ambassadors” and conduct a brief training session on resource separation and clean recycling following the teaching resource pack and/or tutorial	30 to 60 minutes. Maximum of 3 hours can be counted during the whole activity period
Step 2: Operation of Campus Recycling Spot by “Green Duty Ambassadors” Schools may set up Campus Recycling Spots under the below Modes ( (A) and/or (B)) and have “Green Duty Ambassadors” take turns operating the spot (please refer to page 8 of the tutorial for detailed duties), so that students can experience in-person the operations of Recycling Spot and practise resource separation and clean recycling. Mode (A): Self-set-up of a Campus Recycling Spot This mode is suitable for schools to organise on a regular basis by themselves. Schools may set up a Campus Recycling Spot according to the example on page 6 of the tutorial, with “Green Duty Ambassadors” providing clean recycling guidance to fellow students, as well as weighing and collecting the recyclables. Schools can hold the activity in line with the school schedule (e.g. during recess, lunchtime, after school, etc.), offering relatively flexible arrangements. Mode (B): Campus Recycling Spot set up through GREEN@COMMUNITY This mode is suitable for schools to run concurrently with large-scale events, such as Green Week, Civic Education Week, Other Learning Experiences Day, school open day or school anniversary activities etc. Schools may encourage students and parents to store recyclables at home (e.g. plastic bottles, aluminium cans, beverage carton boxes, etc.) in advance and bring them back to school on the activity day for clean recycling while earning GREEN$ points. This can increase the recycling volume and also enhance the atmosphere of participation. The GREEN@COMMUNITY operator will set up the configuration of the Campus Recycling Spot (including mobile recycling bins and smart balance). “Green Duty Ambassadors” will provide clean recycling guidance to fellow students, as well as weigh and collect the recyclables. GREEN@COMMUNITY staff will assist from the side with GREEN$ points earning and recyclables handling (refer to page 7 of the tutorial). Application details and terms: Duration: 3 hours (cannot be extended or shortened) Services: Collection of 9 types of recyclables and GREEN$ points earning Staff of the GREEN@COMMUNITY will collect the recyclables after the activity ends To optimise resources and enhance promotional effect, schools are recommended to invite at least 100 students to participate in recycling and reach the target of collecting 50 kg or more of recyclables (including other types of recyclables, for example glass bottles, beverage carton boxes, rechargeable batteries, small electrical appliances etc.) It can only be established during large-scale learning events. Each school can only request two times at most during the activity period Schools must submit the application form at least 2 months prior to the proposed event date. Subject to service demand, we will try our best to arrange one of the preferred booking time slots for the school. Once the school's booking is confirmed, the GREEN@COMMUNITY operator will contact the school to coordinate the arrangements.	Each session can be calculated based on actual operating time, 1.5–3 hours are recommended. Maximum of 3 hours can be counted per activity
Step 3: Handling of Recyclables Schools may handle the recyclables as follows: Mode (A): Self-set-up of a Campus Recycling Spot Schools participating in the “Waste Separation and Recycling Scheme in Schools” may request the EPD’s recycler to collect on-site upon reaching the minimum collection amount; Arranging private recyclers for collection (refer to “Hong Kong Collector/ Recycler Directory” ); and/or Registering for the GREEN$ Electronic Participation Incentive Scheme, and taking the recyclables directly to GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities for recycling. Mode (B): Campus Recycling Spot set up through GREEN@COMMUNITY Staff of the GREEN@COMMUNITY will collect the recyclables after the activity ends for further processing at GREEN@COMMUNITY facility	N/A
Step 4: Online Registration and Recording Complete the form for each session on or before 30 June 2027, provide the recycling quantity records, service hours of the “Green Duty Ambassadors” and upload at least 3 activity photos, including photos showing “Green Duty Ambassadors” guiding fellow students in clean recycling. Schools should submit an application for each session of Campus Recycling Spot Activity.	N/A

Prize

Schools that successfully meet the following requirements will receive certificates/gifts.

#Note: The electronic Certificate of Participation will state the service hours carried out by the students. Schools may use it as formal supporting evidence for the student’s portfolio.

Terms & Conditions

There is no limit on the number of Campus Recycling Spots Activity organised by a school. However, each school / each student may redeem the Electronic Certificate of Appreciation / electronic Certificates of Participation for “Green Duty Ambassadors” / gift only once.
Schools may use at most two times of Mode (B) service (i.e. Campus Recycling Spot set up through GREEN@COMMUNITY) during the activity period.
Due to fluctuations in service demand for GREEN@COMMUNITY, the EPD will endeavour to arrange for GREEN@COMMUNITY operators to provide Mode (B) service, but cannot guarantee that every application will be successful.
School must complete the activities and submit registrations on or before 30 June 2027. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Service hours of “Green Duty Ambassadors” are to be recorded and confirmed by the school. The EPD will issue electronic Certificates of Participation for “Green Duty Ambassadors” based on the records submitted by the school as proof. To ensure the fairness of the activity, the EPD reserves the right to verify the records submitted by schools. Schools may be required to provide relevant supporting documents (such as activity photos, attendance records, etc.) upon request.
The EPD will verify school submissions in July 2027 and will endeavour to provide the electronic Certificate of Appreciation, electronic Certificates of Participation for “Green Duty Ambassadors” to schools who attained activity requirement, and notify them of the gift collection arrangements before mid-July.
Gifts are limited in quantity and will be distributed according to the chronological order of registration submission, while stocks last. The EPD reserves the right to substitute other prizes for the Big Waster accessories cum RPET eco-bag.
Prizes awarded by the EPD cannot be returned or exchanged for cash, any other goods or services. The EPD will not provide compensation if gifts are lost or stolen after collection by the school.
By uploading activity photos in the application form, schools agree to authorise the EPD to use the images for non-commercial publicity, publication and website display related to We-recycle@School Activity without prior notice.
